 Abstract

Background: Dengue virus infections are a significantthreat to human populations particularly in the tropical andsubtropical regions. Aedes aegypti mosquito from humans tohumans mainly transmits this. The main pathological mecha-nisms associated include thrombocytopenia and plasmaleakage.Aim of Study: This study aimed to describe the prevalencepresentation and outcome of plasma leakage in dengue feverpatients attended a private clinic in Aden - Yemen.Patients and Methods: A retrospective study included 50patients with dengue fever presented with fever and confirmedwith positive dengue NS 1 antigen in the blood in the periodfrom May to October 2020; all patients had done abdomensonogram for plasma leakage features gall bladder walloedema, ascites and pleural effusion.Results: 50 patients were recruited in this study, maleconstitute (60%) female (40%), (58%) of patients came fromurban areas, while (42%) came from rural areas, (40%) ofpatients had plasma leakage manifestation seen by sonogram, (75%) of those patients with plasma leakage were female, (25%) were male, Thick gall bladder is the most commonfinding in sonogram (70%) reflecting plasma leakage, Overallmortality was (2%) in the enrolled patients in this study.Conclusion: Prevalence presentation and outcome ofplasma leakage among dengue fever Yemeni patients do notremarkably differ from studies carried out worldwide.
